Running when dismantled but the crankshaft is hard to turn over. 

It feels smooth but it doesn't turn freely.  No play.  

It just feels really stiff.  Normally cranks don't feel like this when they have metal in bearing. 

So I don't know what is going on with it

Complete transmission is still in there, I didn't remove any of that.
