Gaerne, the renowned Italian company, has once again pushed the boundaries of motocross footwear with its latest release, the SG22 Boots. This high-end offering introduces a range of innovative features designed to enhance performance and protection. Recently showcased by Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing riders at the AMA Supercross series, the SG22 has already made a bold impression. Let's dive into the advanced technology and design elements that set these boots apart.
Advanced 3D Construction: Gaerne has redefined the toe box with a revolutionary 3D main body construction. This unique design facilitates smoother shifting, enabling riders to effortlessly maneuver through gears. By incorporating this innovative feature, Gaerne ensures optimal control and precision during intense motocross action.
Customizable Fit: The SG22 Boots prioritize individualized comfort and fit. Aluminum buckles with upper locking levers offer three adjustable positions, enabling riders to fine-tune their fit according to personal preferences and gear requirements. Additionally, the two-position frontal shin guard allows for customized adjustments, accommodating riders who wear knee protection without compromising comfort.
Enhanced Safety Features: Gaerne's commitment to rider safety is evident in the SG22 Boots. The Dual Stage Pivot System 1.0 protects the ankle with two limit switches, preventing hyperextension, hyperflexion, and lateral movements. The heel area features multiple densities for enhanced protection, while the rubber compound in contact with the bike surface is optimized through professional rider feedback. Gaerne's Steel Bumper 1.0, a steel insert between the sole and the boot, reduces weight without compromising protection, ensuring riders can confidently tackle any track.
Durability and Resole Capability: Gaerne employs Goodyear welted construction in the SG22 Boots, resulting in a solid and resistant structure. This construction technique not only enhances durability but also allows for resoling, extending the lifespan of the boots. With Gaerne, riders can rely on their investment lasting through countless demanding rides.
Gaerne's SG22 Boots introduce a new era of innovation and performance in motocross footwear. With cutting-edge features like the 3D main body construction, adjustable buckles, and advanced safety mechanisms, these boots provide a winning combination of comfort, protection, and control. Gaerne's dedication to quality and craftsmanship is evident throughout, ensuring that riders can trust in their gear. While the SG22 has recently arrived in the USA, limited stock is available at retailers. Waste no time in securing a pair of these groundbreaking boots and experience the pinnacle of motocross performance.
Overall Impression: I have been wearing the Gaerne SG12’s for multiple years, so I had high expectations for the SG22’s. The very first time I put them on I noticed that the toe box felt a lot bigger and had a bit more room for my foot to move around – which took some time to get used to compared to the snugger fit of the 12’s. The other major difference is the weight. They are noticeably lighter, which will reduce leg fatigue during the longer motos. I could tell that the soles felt a bit thicker (which I wasn’t super happy with off the start), but I seemed to adjust to it very quickly. I also felt like the buckles weren’t as sturdy/didn’t seem to snap into the ‘locked’ position when you buckled them & the material used felt ‘cheaper’ than I was used to.

They nailed the sleek & updated look in comparison to the SG12’s, and the internal feeling around the ankle is still the exact same as the previous models – which for someone with previous ankle injuries this is a HUGE reason to why I wear Gaerne. Overall, for the price difference between the two models I would really only recommend upgrading to the SG22’s if you are looking to have the latest and greatest boots on the market – as they are a step in the forward direction. If your current SG12’s still have some life left in them, I would stick with those until an upgrade is needed, as the fit, feel and performance aspect is still very similar.
