Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a rigid, energy absorbing foam. In the helmet industry, EPS is the most common means of energy management to protect the brain. Generic EPS is often referred to as “Styrofoam” (a trademarked name owned by the Dow Chemical Company). micrometric
A micrometric fastener is an adjustable fastener commonly used in helmets, pants, boots, etc. Also known as "micro ratchet" or just plain "ratchet fastener", the system uses a spring-loaded ratchet mechanism that interlocks with an opposing strip of toothed metal or plastic. It is best known for its ease of adjustment - especially with gloved hands. In helmets, it takes the place of the classic double D-ring closure.
