I fully rebuilt this engine in the spring of 2025 for a customer, here are the details:- NEW OEM Cylinder head with valves, springs and keepers- NEW 270cc big bore cylinder (Millenium technologies/Eric Gore) with Vertex piston/rings- NEW Hot Rods Crankshaft, all bottom end bearings and seals- NEW OEM Cam Chain, Waterpump, engine and air box temperature sensors- NEW clutch kit installed (Note: Hinson/Moose clutch basket was installed spring of 2023)
Owner (65 vet) claimed about 25 hours of use since rebuild
The 2014 to 2018 Yamaha YZ250F model years share the same fundamental reverse-cylinder engine generation and can run the 2018 engine. Direct Compatibility Breakdown2017: This is a direct, drop-in replacement. The 2017 and 2018 engines are practically identical in every way, down to the internal updates.
- 2014–2016: The 2018 engine will physically bolt into these frames and align with the electronics. However, note that Yamaha made incremental updates over this generation (such as changes to the cylinder head, mapping, and structural tweaks in 2017). If you swap the complete engine with its matching throttle body and ECU, it is a straightforward swap.
